How to add an emoji to the status bar and the Lock Screen on iPhone?

Apple gives us new ways to personalize the iPhone with every new software update. Home Screen, widget, or other personalization makes the user experience more fun and exciting. If you ever wished to add an emoji to your status bar, you can now by using the Focus Mode.

The Focus Mode is meant to make you more focused by limiting calls and notifications while doing important tasks. But it can also be used to customize the status bar and the Lock Screen.

You can choose from the list of emojis and give it color. Unfortunately, the color will only be seen on the Lock Screen. The status bar will show the emoji in black and white.

How to add an emoji to your status bar?

You can easily add an emoji to your status bar using the Focus feature. When you select the emoji color, it will not be shown in the status bar, but you'll see the color on your Lock Screen.

To add an emoji to your status bar, follow the steps below:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Go to "Focus" settings.

3. At the top right corner, tap on the plus (+) icon to create a new Focus.

4. Select "Custom".
5. In the "Name" bar, enter your Focus name.
6. Then, select the emoji and its color.
7. When done, tap on "Next".

8. Now, tap on "Calls From" and choose "Everyone". This step is very important as the Focus you're creating is meant only to display the emoji and not limit any calls or notifications.
9. At the bottom, tap on "Allow".

10. Under "Allowed Apps", tap on "Add App".

11. Check all the apps from the list. If you check only a few of them, you won't be able to see the notifications from other apps while this Focus is on.
12. Then, tap on "Done" and on "Allow".
13. When your Focus is ready, tap on "Done".
14. Next to the Focus name you created, toggle the switch to turn it on and display the emoji in the status bar and the Lock Screen.

What to do when the emoji doesn't show up?

If you followed all the steps above and the emoji didn't show up on the status bar, check if you're Location icon is showing. Sometimes, the emoji won't show up until the Location icon is on the status bar.

To remove the Location icon from the status bar, follow the steps below:

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on "Privacy".

3. At the top, tap on "Location Services".
4. Scroll to the bottom and tap on "System Services".

5. Scroll to the bottom again, and next to "Status Bar Icon", toggle the switch to remove the Location icon.

The emoji of the Focus you created should appear in the status bar.

How to change the emoji on the status bar?

If you get tired of seeing the same emoji on the status bar, you can always change it.

To change the status bar emoji, follow the steps below:

1. Go to your iPhone settings.
2. Go to "Focus" settings.

3. Then, locate your created Focus and tap on it.
4. Under "Options", tap on "Name & Appearance".

5. Now, you can change the Focus name, the emoji, and its color.
6. When you select a different emoji, at the top right corner, tap on "Done".

You should see the emoji has changed. You can change it again when you get bored of this one following the same steps.

How to remove the emoji from the status bar?

You can turn off the Focus you created when you don't want to see the emoji on the status bar and your Lock Screen. There are three ways you can do this.

To turn off the Focus from the Lock Screen, follow the steps below:

1. When your device is on the Lock screen, tap on the emoji.
2. Then, tap on the Focus name to disable it.

To turn off the Focus from the Control Center, follow the steps below:

1. For iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top right corner.
For iPhones with the Home button, swipe up from the middle bottom.
2. Tap on the Focus name you created.
3. Then, tap on the name again to turn it off.

To turn off the Focus from settings, follow the steps below:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap on "Focus".

4. Toggle the switch next to the Focus name to disable it.

If you won't be using the Focus you created anymore, you can delete it from the Focus settings.

To delete the Focus, follow the steps below:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap on "Focus".

4. Scroll to the bottom and tap on "Delete Focus".

5. Confirm the action by tapping on "Delete Focus" again.
