How to Remove Extensions in All Major Browsers on Mac

How to Remove Extension in Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera on Mac

An extension is a software module that you add to your browser. No matter if you're using Safari or Chrome, there are plenty extensions designed for almost every browser. They let you customize your browser appearance, block ads, apply discount codes when you shop, manage cookies, and much more. You can choose one depending on your preferences and needs. You can find extensions for productivity, money-saving, games, and others.

An extension can add more features and functionality to your browser. But sometimes, it can do more harm than good. By downloading an extension, you might also download malicious software like malware, adware, and other dangerous software.

Such extensions can spy on your personal information, login credentials, what pages you visit, spread malware, and more.

Before downloading an extension, you need to be sure it's safe. That means downloading extensions from trusted sources. Usually, infected harmful extensions are downloaded from third-party websites.

Sometimes an extension can also interfere with certain websites and impact your browser performance. The more extensions you have, the more it slows down your browser. For example, content and ad blockers may consume more CPU (central processing unit), thus decreasing your browser performance.

Extensions developed for certain websites but stay active while browsing others can also impact your browsing experience.

For these reasons, it's beneficial to know how to disable and remove extensions from your browser.

Choose your browser and follow the steps to either temporarily disable or permanently remove unwanted extensions.
